Government of Canada Announces New Deduction Limits and Expenses Benefit Rate for Businesses at the Beginning of 2025

In the news today, the government of Canada announces a series of changes that will tale effect on January 01, 2025, related to the limits and rate to the automobile on the deduction of tax-exempt allowances and expenses benefit. These measures will affect all provinces and territories. 

The limit on the deduction of tax-exempt allowances paid by employers to employees who use their personal vehicle for business purposes in the provinces will increase by two cents to 72 cents per kilometre for the first 5,000 kilometres driven, and to 66 cents for each additional kilometre. For the territories, the limit will also increase by two cents to 76 cents per kilometre for the first 5,000 kilometres driven, and to 70 cents for each additional kilometre.
