Profile
Celebrating 50 years in 2025, The Toronto International Film Festival has become a destination event since it started as the Toronto Festival of Festivals out of the Windsor Arms Hotel. In 2010, the festival also gained a home of its own in the TIFF Lightbox, a mix of cinema and gallery space with educational facilities and restaurants.
Many well-known and Oscar-nominated films have premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, including Black Swan, 127 Hours and Silver Linings Playbook. The Festival also has its own awards, some juried and others determined by audience vote, putting Toronto alongside Cannes, Telluride and Sundance.
The Festival is also when the TIFF Industry Conferences take place, with influential and inspiring panel discussions and talks given by some of the top screen professionals in the biz.
